Creating wealth – with honour

Welcome TO Barinor Holdings

The Barinor group of companies originated from multiple Benefit Societies, the first of which was established in 1886 to offer members benefits when physical ailments prevented them from working, as well as funeral cover and gratuity. Other sick funds followed, merged and eventually de-mutualised to form the insurance company, which has since grown into Barinor Holdings, where the former policy holders are now proud shareholders.

Today, Barinor is an investment holding company involved in the holding of commercial properties as well as two wine farms, now collectively known as D’Aria Wine Estate, which borders the urban edges of the Bellville and Durbanville areas in Cape Town. The company is involved in property development as well as property and park management. Through its D’Aria wine farm, it is also involved in high-quality wine production.

The Barinor Holdings (Pty) Ltd group structure is as follows:

Bussiness Ethos

Creating wealth with honour – this is, in essence, what Barinor is all about. The group’s business model is focused on the generation of various income streams derived from property, wine production and strategic business partnerships. Sound corporate governance, partnerships, and balancing the economic, societal and environmental impacts of its operations, form part of the ethos by which Barinor conducts its business.

Barinor believes in partnering with its clients and in building trusted relationships. Doing business ethically and with consistent integrity is a principle that Barinor holds to unwaveringly.

Why ‘Barinor’?

Many years ago, a competition was launched to determine a name for the new company, but none of the entries resonated sufficiently with all relevant stakeholders. The late Brian Lotter of Barinor’s management team suggested that a name be created using one letter each from the names of the first members of the team: Brian Lotter, Sakkie Voges, Gerald Boshoff, Oosie Oosthuizen, Johan von Waltsleben, Frank Boonzaaier and Johan Kriel – Barinor, the new company name, was born.

The Logo

The logo of Barinor and D’Aria features a muse – a youthful and free-spirited soul with a flamboyant, feathered hat and a cape, followed by a bird. The muse is playing a flute, and it is symbolic of what the Barinor brand represents: the ability to capture the gifts of all your senses.
