D’ARIA – SYNERGY OF THE SENSES

D’Aria Winery invites visitors to savour its internationally acclaimed wines, where history, tradition, and the natural richness of the Durbanville Valley come together in every bottle. Nestled in the heart of “Sauvignon Blanc Country,” the estate’s vineyards flourish on the fertile slopes behind the Tygerberg Hills, just 10 km from the cooling Atlantic Ocean breeze.

This unique terroir shapes D’Aria’s celebrated wine portfolio — from Sauvignon Blanc and Late Harvest to Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet, and expressive red blends — each with a character as intriguing as their whimsical musical names like Songbird, Soprano, and Rock Song. With numerous international awards affirming their craftsmanship, D’Aria’s wines continue to delight discerning palates and showcase the very best of Durbanville wine country.

Whether you’re exploring the vineyards for the first time or returning to discover new vintages, D’Aria Winery offers an unforgettable tasting experience rooted in passion, place, and exceptional winemaking.

THE D’ARIA EXPERIENCE

D’Aria comprises two historic farms: Doordekraal and Springfield. In 1698 Doordekraal was first granted to a hardy Dutchwoman, Trijntje Verweij (née Theunisse). This mother of three was widowed shortly after immigrating to the Cape. Trijntje continued farming and her success earned her the complimentary name “De Boerin” (The Lady Farmer).

Trijntje’s daughter, Alida married Ocker Cornelisz Olivier, who farmed on a nearby farm named Hoogebergsvallei (later renamed Springfield). Alida, like her mother, continued farming after her husband died while she was still young.

In 1998 and 1999 Barinor Holdings, a local property and investment company, bought Doordekraal and Springfield and amalgamated the two farms as “D’Aria Vineyards”. Barinor was born of a humble railway workers’ benefit fund that started in 1886. The company honours the two Verwey women’s heritage of hard work and passion for farming, and that sense of family and local community still pervades Barinor’s business philosophy.

The wine farm features guest cottages, event venues, the wine cellar and countryside ambience.
